Volunteering at WSA
The Windsor Service Alliance provides temporary assistance and referral to local residents at their request and will establish a central location for the collection and dissemination of goods, services and information to match their needs. WSA will advocate for those in need through liaison with city, county, state, federal and local agencies, both public and private, and by raising the level of community awareness of, sensitivity to, and participation in the long term resolution of these issues.
Volunteer Job Description
We rely on our volunteers to help us implement our programs, particularly at the Food Pantry. Our web master maintains and updates our website and keeps it running smoothly.
The volunteers pack bags on Friday morning between 10:00 am and 11:30 am and then hand them out to families from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Please note, our seniors are served first and need time to exit the parking lot before the other families arrive.
Monday through Friday groceries need to be organized in the storage areas in the Food Pantry and some items are stored in the refrigerator. Refrigerators need to be cleaned and food rotated to ensure proper care and handling of the food.
Five days a week, we have Drivers who pick up our food at Raley's and Safeway. We also purchase food go at the Redwood Empire Food Bank and the REFB truck delivers the produce to WSA twice a month. Food For Families iat Raley's is also an account that we order out of. Volunteers can help put the produce away once REFB delivers to WSA and and clean up help is needed as needed.
Volunteers can help distribute food to the needy on a weekly basis. Some tasks that need to be done require some bending and lifting of up to 50 pounds.
Duties include:
- Process paperwork
- Make phone calls
- Unload/load food from truck
- Set up or prepare food boxes
- Carry boxes of food to car for clients
- Clean up Pantry
- Breaking down boxes

None of this would be possible without these dedicated conscientious volunteers!
